Well get into a group with a minion master necro if possible. He'll raise up an army of minions and help clear out the map pretty quickly. Trick to the mission is taking out as many foes as possible, then go for the priest, then the boss within 2 minute time line. It does require a full team of people without a minion master. Tips to the areas. first priest obviously head on, take out as many as possible, keep an eye on the clock, go for the priest and the boss. Next area, keep away from the ones in the middle, go as far left as you can, kill those ones first, then sweep after the second priest and boss.
The last area has the three bosses and priests, go right. You can get lucky with taking out the priest and the boss before having to fight anything else. Take them out, go for the next one. Keep an eye on the clock so you know when the 2min time is. I find the last boss and priest the worse, one of them heals I believe. Anyway it can be done without a minion master but it requires the group to all follow called targets. Doesn't hurt to get that 10% moral boost either.

Just wait for THK :0
It wouldn't hurt to get to lvl 20 either, you might be able to join a better group that way.

I did it with my lv17 mesmer, then went and ascended... lv20 is not a requirement but it helps.

Quoted for truth.
Tried 3x with PUG's, no go.
Tried 1x with henchmen, got the mission, bonus, and a profession elite at the same time.
The reason the henchmen are more powerful is because 90% of the time, they're all attacking the same creature. I even ran into aggro problems and bad attack timing. There WAS a point where I had gotten killed and I suspected doom, but the henchmen pulled me back up quick and I ran away and abused the terrain to kill a few creatures (priest was already dead) before rebirthing the team.
Here's what I did:
Signet of Capture, Healing Breeze, Banish, Bane Signet, Holy Strike, Smite, Signet of Judgment, Rebirth.
Non-Ascended so 170 skill points: max Smiting, Healing taken up until breeze is +8, the rest in Protection.
Henchmen Used: Lina, Alesia, Little Thom, Stefan, and Reyna.
Method of Success: general aggro and target awareness

Also... I did this mission with a Mo/Me4. Well... not so much me. But some guildies, a couple random people. I was just there to maintain enchantments and heal the party, since I couldn't really do anything. By the time we were done we all had -60% DP... but hey, we did it =D

I paid a guy and he did it SOLO, it was pretty impressive. After ascending ten times i just didn't have the patience to put a team together.

To my knowledge it is possible to solo thirsty river with a MM or a W/mo. Yes this is an excellent farming location. I solo this mission with my w/mo usually late at night when less runners are there. 6k per person x 5 ppl = 30k, not to bad for 30-40mins of easy killing
